Jam Radio News > Baltimore Symphony to Perform Dead Symphony
June 25, 2008
A year after the release of it's recorded debut, composer Lee Johnson's orchestral tribute to The Grateful Dead will recieve it's first live treatment.
Known as the "Dead Symphony", the album featured arrangements of Dead songs performed by the Russian National Orchestra. The live version will be performed by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on August 1st, which would mark the 66th birthday of Jerry Garcia.
The one-night only event will transform Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall into a gallery of Grateful Dead and other countercultural art and artifacts, including images by Amalie R. Rothschild, Fillmore East photographer. The art and artifacts will be auctioned at the performance and online to benefit the Baltimore Symphony.
