Jam Radio News > The Dead Rocking the Cradle, Egypt 1978
July 11, 2008
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the historic Grateful Dead concerts at the foot of the Great Pyramids in Gizah, the band is set to release Rocking The Cradle: Egypt 1978, a 2-CD/1-DVD audio/video album recorded September 15-16, 1978.
The two audio CDs contain 18 tracks and more than three hours of music, including that version of "Fire On The Mountain" we all know and love, widely considered among the best. Except for three performances that appeared on 2004's Beyond Description boxed set, the rest of the tracks on Rocking the Cradle have never been released. The DVD also features more than 100 minutes of footage; including more than a dozen songs from the third Egypt show, which epically took place during a lunar eclipse. The DVD also contains a featurette entitled "The Vacation Tapes" which includes rare and never-released candid video of the band.
Fans that pre-order from dead.net will also receive a bonus CD with 8 additional tracks.
